1st university Pride March in Southern Tagalog Region on UPLB Babaylan's 2nd Anniversary

by Zygote
Yesterday, July 6, 2011, marked the second anniversary of UPLB Babaylan, UPLB’s LGBT students’ support group. In celebration, the organization spearheaded the first university LGBT pride march in the Southern Tagalog region. We thank the numerous organizations, professors and individuals who rendered their support, making the event triumphant with around 500 participants. We are also grateful to Ms. Angelica Jones, actress and singer, for her presence despite her busy schedule, her endearing speech, and sincere support. The Metropolitan Community Church, a movement proclaiming God’s love for everyone -not just heterosexuals, was as specially supportive as always. It is humbling that the outcome of an event 20 students just previously aspired to pursue exceeded expectations, through people’s overwhelming support and a blessing of unicorns.

Thank you to UP Babaylan for lending us the wings!

It was on July 6, 2009 when 41 individuals gathered at the Humanities Steps and marked the establishment of UPLB Babaylan, a gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students' support group which believes in the inherent equality of all persons regardless of status or condition. For the organization, this inherent equality implies that human beings should not be discriminated against on the basis of their sexual orientation.
